In this video, Gabrielle goes over how to plant a tree so it grows for decades to come! It’s important to consider these things when planting a tree:
After removing the root ball from the pot or burlap and wire, you will need to remove soil from the top of the root ball until you find the “root-flare” which is where the soil level should be so the tree bark isn't covered in soil beyond the roots. You MUST remove any twine or wire that is tied around the trunk so as it grows it can expand freely and not become girdled
Loosening the sides of root ball is helpful when the tree has been in a pot for long enough to become root bound. Usually this step doesn’t apply to ball and burlap trees since they don’t have an extensive root ball yet
Water, water, water! Consistent water after planting is essential for a healthy tree. We recommend soaking slowly and deeply to saturate the new planting area and hydrate all the new delicate roots
Once the tree has been in the ground for about a year, you can water less often but still water deeply
